Roots cause extensive damage to drainage systems in Kent. This job is a clear example of the damage roots can cause if trees are located close to the drainage system. A tree surgeon was called in to cut down a large tree as the roots from the tree were pushing the manhole chamber walls over in the chamber.
The client called us advising they had blocked drains and Root Damage To Drains In Bromley Kent.We first attended and carried out a drainage CCTV survey. The client was provided with a full written report and we also emailed the footage direct from site as the manhole walls were in danger of falling in. The tree surgeon was booked to remove the tree so we could start the excavation of the manhole walls.
Due to the roots running deep into the ground there was no way to remove them totally, a plan was put in place to totally move the manhole over by one meter.
The excavation started and numerous problems arose while using the excavator, there was rain water drains in the excavation, the gas and water main pipes became a problem, so the engineers on site had to complete the dig by hand. After digging down to the depth needed to install the first concrete section for the new chamber, the engineers noticed the roots from the tree were running along the existing pipe work. We then made the decision to carry out drain re lining to seal the pipe work from the chance of any further damage.
This particular job took just over one week to complete and the client moved out while the work was ongoing, on there return the client commented on how happy they were with the work carried out and was happy to get there home back.
